Freedom Review of Regionals
The Freedom Wrestling Team put on a strong performance at the Northwest Region Championships at Forest Park High School this past weekend. A week after the Eagles were upset by 1/2 point at the Cedar Run District Tournament, the Eagles were tops among Cedar Run teams with their 6th place finish at Regions. Though Colonial Forge ran away with the event and the Eagles missed their goal of a top 5 finish, the Eagles could take solace in the fact that they were 19 points ahead of the next closest Cedar Run Team, Osbourn. The Eagles were almost 30 points ahead of District Tournament Champions, Battlefield.

The Eagles were lead by Tyler Young and DaQuante Timbers who would both qualify for the AAA State Championships at Robinson next weekend. Young advanced to the Regional Finals after a solid 7-3 decision over Franklin County's Jon Altice. This win would be made even more special in that it was Young's 100th career victory. In his first two matches Young had recorded a pin and a decision to advance to the Semi's. In the finals, Young lost a tough 16-4 decision to Nationally Ranked David Reck of Colonial Forge.

Timber's became Freedom's 1st ever two time Regional Champion as he dominated his field. After receiving a bye in the first round Timbers would run up a 17-1 lead on Osbourn Park's Justin Kanson before pinning him in the 2nd period. In his semi-final match, Timbers would once again run up a big lead before pinning Franklin County's Shaun Greer in the 3rd period. In the finals Timbers would use a series of 6 takedowns to gain a huge lead over Forest Park's James Vawter and ultimately win his championship match 15-6.

This leaves Timbers with a 51-2 Record on the Season and a 151-11 career record.

Also having strong performances on the weekend were Brendan Kammerdeiner, who went 4-2 on the weekend, and Senior Chris Freda who each finished 5th. This leaves both boys as alternates to next weekends State Championships. In what is likely to be his last match as an Eagle, Freda dominated the Cedar Run District Champion Jake Payne of Battlefield in a 9-2 decision.
