Volleyball: Still the One! Loudoun County Clinches Dulles District Top Seed, Region II Bid with Playoff Win Over BR

Ashburn (Oct. 31, 2009) - For the third time in four years, the Loudoun County High School volleyball team captured a special one-game playoff to secure the AA Dulles District's top seed and the automatic Region II bid.

The Raiders (19-2) came from behind for the second time in three days to defeat Broad Run (14-6), 21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-21. Both teams are co-district champions, Broad Run's first district title since 1991 -- which current Spartan coach Ellen Roberts played on! -- and Loudoun County's fourth straight title or co-title.

Please check back to VivaLoudoun after you have gone Trick-or-Treating for a full story by Dan "Super Spike" Sousa plus photos and even video interviews with players from both teams and Roberts! Stay safe out there tonight ...

Update on Ryan Moody - 1,562 People Have Joined the "Get Well" Group on Facebook!

Friday Evening update on Ryan Moody, who has been the hospital for six days now after a car accident in the Tidewater area where he plays football at William and Mary. It says alot about the good-natured Stone Bridge High School grad that 1,562 people as of Saturday morning has joined the "Get Well Ryan Moody" facebook group! ...

Ryan had a so so day today. Still very tired and lethargic. He's sleeping allot and needs lots of rest. In time he will get better as he is strong willed and has a loving family and friends around him. We ask everyone to please respect his wishes to get strong before receiving any visitors. Gill, Janet, Julio and I very much appreciate all the continued prayers and thoughts for his speedy recovery. THANK YOU.

Football Round-up: Stone Bridge Clinches Share of Liberty District Title; Broad Run 10-0 Third Straight Year; Valley, PV Pitch Shutouts; More!

Here is a quick recap of the Friday nigh football action!

Give Me Liberty! Stone Bridge with 38-21 on the road against the McLean Beiro's ... er Highlanders, clinches a share of a fifth straight Liberty District title for the Bulldogs who can wrap it up next week when they host South Lakes.

A Perfect 10! Yet Again! Ho Hum ... a third straight 10-0 campaign for Broad Run meaning that the Spartan seniors that are 3-year varsity members are 30-0 in the regular season. Spartans crushed Potomac Falls with 27 first quarter points, led 34-0 at the half and took home a 47-7 win.

Goose Eggs! Loudoun Valley (35-0 over Heritage) and Park View (31-0 over Dominion) pitched shutouts on defense Friday night. This keeps Vikes in hunt for a playoff spot in D6 and PV is back in the picture for a bye in D3, even though Andy Hill says "no thanks, we'd rather play each week!"

Raider resurgence: If it wasn't for Broad Run's big turnaround the last three years we would be talking about LC's turnaround from a winless program to back-to-back playoff appearances! Oh, and the Raiders won 45-10 over Freedom with Austin Campbell throwing five TDs, three to Mike Ayoub.

Sure there is more ... check back on Saturday as we printed as many box scores as we can find (or make-up) ... (just teasing) -- Dan Sousa, VivaLoudoun Editor
